Learners with Special Educational Needs
LSEN Unit (Learners with Special Educational Needs)
This unit caters for the needs of children from Special Classes in the Primary School or children who are unable to cope in mainstream.
The learner will spend 5 years in this section, starting in their thirteenth year.
During the learners’ first year at school, they will have an opportunity of getting to know a little about each of the Practical Subjects so that they are able to make an informed choice of the subject they wish to do for the duration of their school career. During GR. 6V OR, the learner will also be introduced to High school life and will gain confidence in his new surroundings. GR.6V OR is followed by GR.6V, GR. 7V and GR. 8V. Four years at Special School level. Learners are then given the opportunity to do a Bridging Programme, which is known as GR.9V.
Vocational subjects are introduced from Gr6V OR (Orientation) so as to enable the learners to cope with the move from Special Education to (TVET) Technical & Vocational Training College if they wish.
The subject packages offered are for Grade 6V OR (Orientation),
Gr6V (Vocational) – Gr9V.

ANNUALLY THE LSEN UNIT HOLDS AN OPEN DAY
Every year, the Special Education Unit at Suid-Natal High School hosts a very successful Open Day. Prospective learners, Parents, Educators and Principals from other schools, The Hibiscus Coast Rotarians, Rotary Ann’s and interested members of the public visit the Unit and are enlightened about Special Education and how learners are integrated with the mainstream school. Suid-Natal High School is the only High School in the country, which boasts a Special Education Unit at Mainstream High School.
Learners and teachers from the LSEN Unit of Suid-Natal High are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast for their generous donation.
